How does acomplia work?

The main component of the medicine is Rimonabant.

The EndoCannabinoid system (also called the EC system) is located in the hypothalamus region of the brain as well as in fat cells in different parts of the body. The EC system is associated with tobacco dependency and with regulating the body’s food intake.

Tobacco use creates an imbalance of the EC system, because it is over stimulated by the regular use of nicotine. Rimnobant is used to block the so called CB1 receptor in the brain. This is one of 2 receptors that are found in the EC system.

When the CB1 receptor is blocked the balance in the EC system is restored. This leads to a decrease in nicotine dependency as well as reduced obesity.
